“Can you Help Me?” – A story

Background to the story

This story was inspired by a recent visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and an encounter with a stranger.

Descending from the observation deck of the Petronas Twin Towers, I was ambling around the central business district.

Without any particular destination in mind,  except a vague notion that I’d like to find some traces of the city I first encountered in 1972. A tall order as there has been such a radical transformation of Kuala Lumpur, some of it highly successful. I remember the beautiful colonial home occupied by a Sikh family, on Jalan Ampang,  where I spent several intriguing days back. I couldn’t find it the area having been absorbed into the Central Business District. So, I took to reading streets sign and looking at the architecture.

Street signs often offer a clue as to what was there beforehand.

This story formed part of my online reading of 13 December, 2021.
