Congratulations to Senator Bob Brown

Bob Brown has succeded in having the Australian Senate pass a motion calling for  Britain to return the Parthenon Marbles.  He said:

“The Parthenon marbles were removed from the Acropolis in Athens some 200 years ago, and now reside in the British Museum. It’s time they were returned to their rightful home in Greece, where a purpose-built museum has recently opened to house and protect them.”
“Prime Minister Rudd should immediately contact his British counterpart, Gordon Brown, requesting that the British Government in turn request the British Museum to return them.”
“The marbles are a priceless part of the world’s cultural heritage and should be in the custodianship of the Greek people who gave them to the world.”

The motion reads:

“That the Senate calls on the Australian Government to make representations to the British Government to undertake the permanent return of the Parthenon Marbles to the Greek Government, recognising that the marbles were part of the Parthenon at the Acropolis in Athens and should be returned to their historical home.”
